  5. Tao Te Ching translated by Lao Tzu

  • This text is more about philosophy than Chinese medicine, but such a staple for understanding the foundations of where the medicine was born. Written over 2,000 years ago, the central theme of Tao Te Ching is the concept of Tao, which can be translated as “The Way” of “The Path.” Tao represents the underlying force that governs all things and brings them to harmony. According to the Tao Te Ching, the key to living a fulfilling life is to align oneself with the Tao, and to live in accordance with its principles of simplicity, humility, and compassion.
